Diplomatic relations with Georgia were established on  August 19, 1994.

Fields of Cooperation

Cooperation in the framework of International Organizations (UN, OSCE).

Economic Cooperation

- Cooperation in the field of transport: It is very important for Georgia to diversify its transport infrastructure, one of Georgia's priorities is to cooperate with Uzbekistan to insure the successful functioning of the TRACECA transport corridor.

- Trade and Economic ties: Intergovernmental Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation of Georgia and Uzbekistan has been established.

Important Visits

 

By the Georgian side:

1995 - the official visit of President of Georgia Mr. Eduard Shevardnadze;

1999 - the official visit of President of Georgia Mr. Eduard Shevardnadze;

2005 - the official visit of Prime Minister of Georgia Mr. Zurab Noghaideli.

By the Uzbekistan side:

1996 - the official visit of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Islam Karimov;

2003 - the official visit of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr.Islam Karimov.

 

Legal Framework

Georgia and the Republic of Uzbekistan have signed 75 agreements, among them:

  • Friendship and Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Georgia and the Republic of Uzbekistan;
  • Agreement between the Republic of Georgia and the Republic of Uzbekistan for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments;
  • Convention between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and on Capital;
  • Consular Convention between Georgia and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
