The U.S.-Georgia Strategic Partnership Commission's (SPC) Democracy and Governance Working Group met on June 21 in Tbilisi to review progress on goals set at the Working Group's November 2015 meeting in Washington.  Both sides affirmed the importance of strong, depoliticized government institutions and transparent and accountable governance.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs is deeply concerned by the fact of murder committed in the village of Khurcha, Zugdidi District and expresses heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of the victim, Giga Otkhozoria. This criminal act once again demonstrates the highly alarming situation in the occupied region of Abkhazia, Georgia and the full responsibility for it lies with the Russian Federation as with the power in effective control of the region. The abovementioned criminal act reaffirms the need of establishing international security mechanisms in the occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region.

The Council of Europe continues to prepare reports on the conflict in Georgia and to obtain access to Georgia's occupied territories, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland said while talking with journalists at the 126th meeting of the Committee of Foreign Ministers of the Council of Europe in Sofia.

On 16 May 2016, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze took part in a charity event in support for the Solidarity Fund of Georgia aiming to raise funds for the treatment of children and young people suffering from cancer in Turkish hospitals.
