But the strong historical friendship and the deep cultural and religious ties between Greece and Georgia put our bilateral relations in the league of their own. Because these ties go beyond the recorded accounts of ancient Greek colonies of Fasis and Dioscurias, extending to the stunning myths of the altruistic Prometheus, chained to the Caucasus Mountains and the adventurous Argonauts seeking and finding the Golden Fleece.

From 1 to 5 July 2016, Georgia will host the 25th annual session of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). It is noteworthy that this large-scale and politically important event will be held in Georgia for the first time.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs is deeply concerned by the fact of murder committed in the village of Khurcha, Zugdidi District and expresses heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of the victim, Giga Otkhozoria. This criminal act once again demonstrates the highly alarming situation in the occupied region of Abkhazia, Georgia and the full responsibility for it lies with the Russian Federation as with the power in effective control of the region. The abovementioned criminal act reaffirms the need of establishing international security mechanisms in the occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region.

Prime Minister of Georgia has launched an initiative for the establishment of the "Tbilisi Silk Road" Forum (official web-site www.tbilisisilkroad.ge), an annual high level meeting of all interested states and international organizations. Tbilisi, the Capital of Georgia would gladly host such a gathering. The first "Tbilisi Silk Road Forum" will take place on October 15-16, 2015. The aim of the forum is to explore new visions of enhancing partnership in four main areas of cooperation: transport, energy, trade and people-to-people contacts.The Forum, in the format of an international conference, will attempt to discover new ideas for possible scenarios through, which to enhance cooperation in the fields of transport, energy, infrastructure, trade and people-to-people contacts across the "Silk Road" belt. Discussions at the Forum would further approximate our positions and better motivate our countries to intensify the dialogue about the paths towards more prosperous and sustainable development.

By the decision of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the persons residing in Greece, upon their desire, may provide financial assistance to the victims of the flood that happened in Tbilisi on 13 June, 2015, by depositing money to the local bank account.
