On the 4th of March 2014 the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, Mr Štefan Füle paid an official visit to Georgia holding his first meeting with the Georgian Foreign Minister, Ms Maia Panjikidze.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry is deeply concerned by the resumption of the illegal activities of Russian occupation forces along the occupation line in the Tskhinvali region. In the last few days, the Russian occupation troops have resumed the erection of barbed-wire fences in areas close to the villages of Ghogheti and Atotshi (Kareli district). It needs to be considered that the installation of such fences in the occupied Tskhinvali region had been suspended for the past two weeks.

Information on the meeting held between the Georgian Prime Minister and the US President and Vice-presidentDuring his visit to the United States of America, the Georgian Prime Minister, Mr Irakli Gharibashvili, held a working meeting on the 24th of February 2014 with the US Vice-President, Mr Joseph Biden, at the White House in Washington. The two were joined by the US President, Mr Barack Obama.

Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of GeorgiaWe strongly condemn the use of force and are deeply concerned with the tragic events that have developed in Kyiv, on February 18, claiming dozens of human lives. We express our condolences to the families of the victims, a Georgian citizen among them, and of those many more injured. It is with the great distress that we follow these processes, which are totally incompatible with democracy, fundamental human rights and European values.

Five years after the Russia's incursion into the sovereign territory of Georgia and its large-scale military aggression against the independent state on 7 August 2008, the Russian armed forces still continue the occupation of 20 percent of Georgia's territory in flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law, and deprive hundreds of thousands of victims of several waves of ethnic cleansing, including that of 2008, of their internationally recognized right to safe, dignified and voluntary return.
